The suction is at one end, opposite from the large burner on the cook-top. Doesn't seem as powerful as the old hood (also GE), but doesn't drip grease onto the cook-top as the old one did.

I reached out to GE product support and was told the paint was a flat or matter black, not gloss. Not thrilled at all but installed it because I basically had nothing running on the old hood. The lights look to be halogen. Really GE? You can't use LED like the rest of the country is moving towards?

Unit failed after 14 months (two past warranty) and estimated cost to fix was more than I paid originally. Was OK when it worked, but really wasn't as powerful as I had hoped. Would advise you to steer clear of this

If self installing, then ask a friend to help. This is not a one person install mainly due to size of the range and it being awkward for just one person to handle. Also, if you are not venting, then ask for the charcoal filter as it does not come with the hood.

Love our new range hood. Great ventilation, lights are wonderful, but the bulbs get VERY hot when the lights are on. Otherwise no complaints!

We have only had this product for 2 weeks and so far it seems to work alright. Installation was fairly straight forward. The fan is quiet, but the lights are HOT! Instructions for installing the charcoal filter are poor.

the holes for mounting hood looked like they were punched instead of drilled. self tapping screws would not tap. had to grind flashing off back side of holes to get screws to thread.manual said these are torx head screws,they are not.there more like a Phillips but that doesn't work well either. Since this hood will be vented I used the block off plate but a lot of air comes through inside vent.After hood was installed a subtle ding on front edge was noticed when lite was shone on it. The box was in good shape so it left the factory that way. If you come up with a better way to block off inside vent please let me know.

We upgraded our range to black from bisque and wanted a matching hood - opted for above a standard hood and went with the JVX5300 - LOVE the halogen lighting! The features are nicer than the standard basic toggle switch with buttons - and love how the underside has stainless mesh panels that hide all the internals and fan!

Unit was well packaged and wife and I installed without much difficuly. The black finish we selected looked good and build qualiy was good. Our hood has the halogen lights which have very good light, but they do get rather warm. In this day and age I think they should be LED. Fan has good power and sound level is reasonable. Overall pleased with purchase.

I'm a New Orleans girl, cooking is in my soul. My stove is my soulmate. Love straight from my heart is in every meal. My new hood with lighting on each side, allows me to see what's going in the pots. I see the very first bubble when my roux begins to simmer. No more accidentally "blackened meats." When thing get a little too hot, I can quickly cool them down with my 3 speed fan. If I did need to clear some smoke, the vent sucks it right out! Now my meals are intentional, absolutely delicious.

Bought this GE range think it would measure up and then some to my old GE.
I HATE this new range.
I have baked an apple pie for years and uyears but this AM was the most frustrating time baking one.
No manual, tried to read online but to confusing.
I did as I assumed push BAKE and then the + button to increase the temp to 425 degrees.
I kept getting a message of Pr E.
Soo I just kept pushing buttons and the 425 FINALLY showed.
After 10 mins I had to reduced the temp to 375 for the final 35 mins but that was impossible.
I had to turn off the baking feature and re-set for 375.
That too finally showed.
I have no idea if this pie is even baked correctly.
I tried to read the directions on line for bakng but was to confusing.
I have always ha GE products but this is THE WORST of any of them.

Unit is built well, installed easily enough. Lights are halogen and very bright (but they get hot!), fan is quieter than expected but it moves a lot of air. The boost feature on the high fan setting is a plus, and the fan auto-off feature is nice to have. Happy with our purchase, great value for the money.
